Now that the weather is at last getting more spring-like, the “Friends of Chorleywood House Estate” invite you to join them for a couple of hours on a Tuesday morning keeping the Estate beautiful, and accessible to all. They have regular working parties, weather permitting, on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 09.30 – 12.00.
Tasks range from light (dead-heading and pruning) to heavy (digging out silt and leaves from the leat which flows into the pond). Their most recent large project has been to clear the jungle along the A 404 boundary, opening up the view across the Estate. Current sessions involve clearing brambles from the majestic rhododendrons which will be in bloom in a few weeks time, and tending the Edwardian sunken garden.
They always break for cake and coffee mid-morning.
You don’t have to commit to every week, just come along when you can. A message is sent out a few days beforehand saying where to meet, and what the task is for that day. If you would like to know more, please get in touch with timvenner@aol.com.
