A Chorleywood Parish Council press release has revealed an extraordinary diversity of fungal species on Chorleywood Common, recognising the site’s critical importance for biodiversity conservation.

Several rare fungal species, including the Lilac Mushroom (Agaricus porphyrizon to the taxonomy purists), were identified as well as other uncommon species that are rarely recorded in the UK.

It demonstrates what a rich habitat the Common has, especially in woodland and grassland areas, and how lucky we are to have it on our doorsteps.

You can read the full press release on the CPC website here including the full species list.
