Ofwat are continuing to investigate five major water companies for sewage releases into rivers – including Thames Water and the River Chess.

Meanwhile Thames Water together with Affinity Water and other Partners are leading a major new study (“Smarter Water Catchment”)  to inform optimal long term management of the Chess and the related environment.

One year on – A promising start to the River Chess Smarter Water Catchments plan – Chiltern Society

Importantly, there is a call for a wide range of volunteers – see below.

As a partner in this study, the River Chess Association (RCA), working with the Chiltern Society, is looking for volunteers. There are some excellent opportunities for data gathering, river improvement projects, data analysis, wildlife monitoring etc. These positions would be suitable to those who would like to expand their understanding of local geography and wildlife. This work will contribute to our understanding of the Chess and identify ways of improving the wildlife habitat, access for the public and creating a resilient environment better positioned to manage changes in climate.
