We look forward to restrictions lifting and meeting together again.

In the meantime, provided England meets the tests required, here are the next stages of restrictions easing.

Step 2 – Shopping, restaurants, local holidays

On 12th April all shops were allowed to open. This includes beauty salons and hairdressers, as well as clothing stores and other non-essential businesses such as gyms and spas.

Restaurants and pubs can reopen to serve food and alcohol, but only to customers who are seated outdoors. Some entertainment venues can re-open such as libraries, zoos, theme parks and community centres.

Households are permitted to take a holiday, within the UK in self-contained accommodation.

Weddings can increase to up to 15 people in attendance.

Step 3 – Outdoor events, hotels

On 17th May, outdoor gatherings could expand to 30 people, while six people or two households can gather indoors. Pubs and restaurants begin to seat customers indoors.

Live events can have up to 30 people in attendance, and any remaining entertainment venues such as theatres and cinemas can reopen. Gyms can restart exercise classes, as well as indoor groups sports.

Performances and large scale events are allowed to restart with some restrictions on capacity. Hotels, hostels and B&Bs can start accepting guests, and some international travel can resume.

Step 4 – End of Lockdown

For 21st June the government are considering whether all legal restrictions on social contact will be removed.
