After two years of the level of Precept that the Parish Council charges being kept flat, the Council has been forced to increase its charge by 7.5% for the coming year. This increase is driven mainly through external factors including the upcoming increase in Employers National Insurance costs, climate change resulting in significantly increased costs of maintaining the trees on the Common and increased spending on regulatory compliance costs.
The increase in the Precept has been reduced by the Council funding a large proportion of the increased costs from its reserves. The increase in Precept amounts to approximately 50p a month for the average house and should be compared to an increase in RPI of 18% over the same period.
