Winter rains have their compensations – this year is a bonanza year for bluebells! Carpenters Wood in Chorleywood, which is one of the few designated ancient woodlands in the UK, has one of the best bluebell woods in the Chilterns!
The woodland, located in the centre of Chorleywood and within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is a peaceful haven for wildlife, carpeted in golden Beech leaves in the Autumn. But, in early May, the wood is transformed into a mass of bluebells as far as the eye can see!
The best access to see the bluebells is from the footpath located along Whitelands Avenue.
And if you are interested in getting to know more about the woodland why not join our Friends Group (Friends of Carpenters Wood FOCW). We are an enthusiastic team of volunteers who are always looking for new members. We meet on Thursday mornings in the woodland, provide training on the job together with protective wear and tools. Don’t worry if you are not super-fit or can’t come every session. Our volunteers come when they can, and do only what they can manage. But it’s a great way to get fresh air and exercise, and meet friendly, like-minded people.
