It is with regret that after nearly three years of discussion with Transport for London (TfL), the Committee of Friends of Chorleywood Signal Box have had no choice but to shelve the project to open the empty signal box on Chorleywood Station as a museum.
It was planned to open this year as an educational resource intended to cover the history of how the coming of the railway impacted the development of Chorleywood and surrounding areas. This is a shame for the future of this listed building, as it would have been restored and maintained for TfL at no cost to them and would have given the box a useful future benefiting the community.
You can read more about the project and the reasons for this decision on the website and this press release. A book based on the substantial research that has been done will be published later this year and will be available to purchase locally.
