We attended the 4th annual Colne Catchment Action Network conference on 12th September, and heard updates on threatened native species, invasive species, and water quantity and quality in the Colne and its network of tributaries. Attendees included Thames Water, Affinity Water, the Environment Agency, Canal and Rivers Trust, the River Chess Association and many other local interested groups and individuals.

Thames Water are in the 3rd year of their 10-year action plan for the River Chess. The Chesham Sewage Treatment Works has a £21m investment programme to increase capacity, reduce water ingress into the storage tanks, improve staffing and reduce output phosphorus levels from 2% to 0.25%.
Their website now has an interactive map of Storm discharge data, showing for each treatment site the last storm discharge date and duration (River Chess: March 31st 2023, 6½ hours), and a link to its Improvement plan.
CRA was invited to visit to the Chesham Sewage Treatment Works, we hope to take this up soon.
