If you visit Mission EmployAble’s Café on the Common on Saturdays, chances are you will be met with a beaming smile by Leo who ‘does the door’, takes orders and payments and helps in the kitchen.

Twenty-one year old Leo was one of the first batch of young people to be trained by Mission EmployAble’s Supported Internship scheme last year.

As part of his training, Leo was given work experience by the Burford care home, where he proved to be such a star that when he finished his internship last summer, they offered him a part-time paid role as a laundry assistant, which he loves.

Cass Langham, training manager for Mission EmployAble, said: ‘We are delighted by Leo’s success. ‘He is a wonderful example of what adults with learning disabilities can achieve when they receive the right training and support.”

Applications are now open for Supported Internships for September 2023 – July 2024.
