We’re pleased to see Herts County Council has banned vehicle idling on all properties which they own or manage. Idling contributes to poor air quality and produces unnecessary carbon emissions, impacting people’s health and the environment.

This policy applies to all visitors to the sites, including members of the public, staff and contractors, and it’s in force 24/7, as part of HCC’s work to deliver cleaner air for all by 2030.

We’ve asked our HCC Councillor Phil Williams if this policy can be extended to the Parade, where many residents including school children meet every day to enjoy our local cafes and their pavement tables.

Meanwhile – let’s all ensure we don’t idle our cars when stopped for a few minutes!  Do you want to breathe the emissions?  Here’s the NICE* guidance on why it’s a terrible idea.  (*National Institute for Health and Care Excellence)
