There is still time for young adults with a learning disability to apply for a place on Mission EmployAble’s highly-regarded training scheme, based in the Café on the Common in the Pavilion.
The scheme takes the form of supported internships, which begin in September 2023 and end in July 2024.
Interns receive training in food preparation, serving customers and using a till and also have placements in a variety of other workplaces, including shops, gardens, sports centres, care homes and offices.
Since it opened earlier this year, the Café has proved enormously popular with locals and visitors of all ages (and their dogs), who report that the food is delicious and the atmosphere very welcoming.
The supported internships are open to those aged 19 – 25, with a learning disability, who have an active EHCP (education, health, care plan) and are working at Entry Level 2 in functional English and Maths.
