Staff and customers celebrated the Café On The Common’s second birthday on January 16th.

Katharine Weston, founder and chair of Mission EmployAble, the training charity that runs the café said: “When Café on The Common first opened its doors, no one quite knew what to expect from a café that was inside a cricket club and was partly staffed by young adults with learning disabilities and which welcomed dogs.

“Some people didn’t know whether we were brave or mad, but it’s wonderful to say on the café’s second anniversary, our customers continue to tell us how much they enjoy our delicious food and wonderfully welcoming atmosphere.

“Even better, we are proud that our 23 previous interns have achieved over 90% success in paid jobs in hospitality, catering, retail, deliveries, care homes, hotels, cleaning and schools.

“Our 14 current interns are also training for horticulture, warehouse work and kitchen duties.”
