You may well have seen some newly planted trees across Chorleywood courtesy of Herts County Council (HCC). The trees are installed with protective fencing and with a distinctive green bag around the base. The bag is designed to hold water that is gradually released over a number of hours, providing targeted moisture that will penetrate deeply to aid growth.
HCC have confirmed to CRA that they have a watering ‘regime’ to fill these bags periodically, but with the hot and dry weather this may well not be sufficient. They say residents are encouraged to water the trees as much as they like in the summer months using whatever waste water they can spare (there is no obligation for them to use fresh drinking water i.e. spend more on a water bill).
There is a cut-out in the protective fencing through which you can reach the bag and the slit at the top to receive the water.
