Three Rivers is developing a 5-year Nature Recovery Strategy and Action Plan, covering themes ranging from Rivers & Wetlands to Trees & Woodlands.  You can read more information here (PDF download) and give them your comments and ideas in the survey here, before 13th June please.

The CRA will also respond, and include some of the ideas from a very interesting Colne Catchment Action Network (ColneCAN) Conference at Latimer which we attended in April, facilitated by Affinity, Thames Water and the River Chess Association, amongst others.  ColneCAN is a partnership of water companies, local authorities, charities, anglers, conservationists, local residents and businesses to ensure a co-ordinated catchment-wide approach and local action.

We were pleased to hear that works to reduce groundwater ingress at Chesham Sewage Treatment works are well underway, with encouraging signs of possible improvement – there have been no sewage discharges into the River Chess since November 2021. A review and report on progress is promised this summer.  Also good news is that Watford Borough Council has a £2.8M ten year project to clean up the River Colne.

Meanwhile, CRA continues to lobby planners and our MP Gagan Mohindra about the urgent need to protect our wonderful and rare chalk streams, the Rivers Colne, Gade and Chess!
