It’s wonderful to see so many youngsters out cycling in the evenings. However, in just 24 hours, I witnessed three different and potentially very dangerous incidents. Two on the evening of Sunday 14th June, and one on the Monday evening.
A large group of approximately 12 youngsters, mainly girls, were cycling in a large group down the centre of Lower Road, weaving from one side to the other. I had to stop my car in the road until they’d all gone past me. Some weren’t even wearing helmets.
Then on Monday evening a boy on a bike, not wearing a helmet, flew down Brushwood Drive into Whitelands Avenue, shouting that he didn’t even need to brake. It was exactly that spot many years ago where one poor boy was killed on his bike doing just that.
If your youngsters are going out on their bikes, please, please ask them to be careful and ensure they’re aware of the dangers.
