The CRA Executive Committee were all deeply saddened by news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts are with King Charles III and the Royal Family at this time.  Her gracious and dedicated service to the country was appreciated by us all

You may remember the spring edition of our magazine, The Chorleywood Resident, which celebrated the Platinum Jubilee and featured several Chorleywood residents’ memories of their meetings with the Queen.  You can view a digital copy here.

By happy chance, we’ve just uncovered much earlier memories of the Queen, in archive material from the Chenies Residents’ Association.  These include a newsletter to Chenies Estates residents setting out their plans for the Queen’s Coronation day on 2nd June 1953, as well as minutes from the sub-committee set up to organise the event. The plans for the children sound fantastic, such a happy day of celebration.

We have digitised these and added them to the Chorleywood History page on the website.  Click here to view them.

Here’s hoping Chorleywood and Chenies have equally great celebrations on Charles III’s Coronation day.  We wish him, and everyone in Chorleywood and Chenies, every success and happier times ahead.
