The Weeds Fairy doesn’t exist … Neither does the Drains Fairy! 

The Weeds Fairy doesn’t exist …

A resident who takes pride in Chorleywood noticed that the paving outside the shop at the corner of Shire Lane and Lower Road was getting very unsightly, the weeds were having a heyday. They asked at the shop, who gave permission for some volunteer weeding – what an improvement!  

The moral of the story is that there is no Weeds Fairy! If we want Chorleywood to stay nice, it needs action from us all. 

… Neither does the Drains Fairy! 

Another resident has been reporting a blocked drain on Station Approach which floods the road for years. They found an HCC maintenance log, with repeated entries of “Not emptied. Next Routine visit – 18 months”.  Crumbs HCC, we all know a Drains Fairy isn’t going to come and fix the stuck lid or blockage before the next visit!

Our colleague Lisa has worked tirelessly with HCC and we’re happy to say that finally there’s a positive action plan. HCC will review the issues and drainage systems and come up with engineering solutions to address the flooding issues at:

• The A404 lights at Common Road
• Chorleywood Bottom
• Clements Road
• and Station Approach, where they will investigate with CCTV to look at the cause of the flooding

We don’t have a timetable yet, but at least there’s a plan. We’ll update you when we know more about timing.  

Same moral: Reporting issues is worth it! This took much longer than it should have, but if we don’t report problems the fairies definitely won’t fix them. You can report highways issues on the HCC website here.
