Now that the weather has changed and we are getting rain again we are seeing whether the works done over summer to the drains around Chorleywood have made any difference.
It does look like some progress has been made after Herts CC cleaned the drains under the railway bridge and fixed the flooding at the Station ticket office. But we have spotted that after a big rainstorm there will still be a lake all across Station Approach (near the hairpin bend) and over the pavement. Walk along it at your peril, a drenching is very likely as traffic passes! We’re continuing to press them to deal with this long-standing trouble spot!
But that’s just one problem area and there will be others – so when you come across them please make a report and when possible provide a photo of the problem. Use this link: Report blocked drains and flooding
One stretch of road with particularly poor drainage is the A404 from the M25 towards Rickmansworth, a walk that I (your editor) takes from time to time. The majority of the drains are blocked which causes a veritable stream to flow down the side of the road when there is rain, causing pedestrians to get drenched as cars pass. Take a look at the condition of just a small sample of the drains along this road in the photos below! |
