The Government’s consultation on the future of Hertfordshire’s local government structure, moving from District and County levels to single level Unitary Authorities, closes on the 26th March. The consultation can be found at https://consult.communities.gov.uk/local-government-reorganisation/hertfordshire/.

There are three options – 2, 3 or 4 Unitary Authorities. Details of how the existing District Councils fit into each of the options is given on the first page of the consultation.

There is a significant amount of documentation supporting the consultation so, in an effort to help residents understand the implications of the various options, please find below a link to a short extract from the papers that compares the options and provides some details of each option.

From a purely financial perspective, the option to move to a model with two Unitary Authorities delivers the greatest savings, which will help the authorities manage the existing funding challenges all councils are facing. However, different residents will have different priorities, and the extract gives residents the information to understand all perspectives.
