We’re really sorry for the awful time residents on Solesbridge Lane have been having for the last few months. Every time the M25 is having a bad day, or is closed for repairs, a motorway’s worth of traffic look at their satnavs and try diverting via Solesbridge Lane. It’s very narrow near the A404 traffic lights, and the cottages are very close to the road. Imagine lorries passing a few feet from your bedroom window, all through the night!
M25 closures are ordered by National Highways, and Connect Plus works on behalf of them to implement any diversions. Our colleague Lisa and Herts County Cllr Louise Price are working hard to solve this problem, with short-term actions and in the longer-term hopefully removing Solesbridge Lane from satnavs. HCC say they will now stipulate to Connect Plus that all contractors put up additional signage whenever the M25 is closed, to emphasise that Solesbridge Lane is unsuitable for HGVs with a 7.5T weight limit. Herts CC tell us that they are not aware of any further planned M25 closures.
We are working hard on this, and were pleased to see that Chorleywood Parish Council passed a unanimous Resolution on 9th September requesting that HCC introduce a permit access scheme on Solesbridge Lane, to help to prevent ongoing traffic problems. Herts CC Cllr Louise Price tells us that road signage improvements are now in plan, and ways of getting Solesbridge Lane off satnavs are being actively considered. |
