No doubt you’ll have seen that we have sadly lost the tree opposite A&E by the crossroads. Fortunately, no-one was injured. Its roots and trunk had been attacked by Honey Fungus, causing it to be completely rotten. It’s recommended that nothing be re-planted for at least 12 months, and then it should be a tree that’s resistant to the fungus, since the spores continue to live in the ground for a long time.
The CRA with the Parish Council have been pushing to get new seating and fox-proof bins for the village for some time. We will now incorporate this new area into the plan. We will be working with CPC, TRDC and HCC to find a practical, but attractive solution for this site, which is rather blighted by ugly utility infrastructure. We’ll consult with residents and businesses before any final plan is implemented.
Meanwhile, please all avoid walking on the decayed root area, for your own safety and also the well-being of all the shrubs and trees in the village, some of which may also be susceptible to the fungus.
