No BBQs on Chorleywood Common!

With the extended spell of hot weather and no rain now for many weeks, Chorleywood Common along with many other places are tinderbox dry, presenting a very real risk of widespread fires which would be devastating.

Indeed only a week ago a number of homes had to be evacuated while eight fire crews dealt with a field fire on the edge of Croxley Green, near Watford, just a few miles away. Thankfully the fire was contained.

So imagine our surprise when it came to our attention that a barbecue was being used on Chorleywood Common. Thankfully this time it didn’t result in a fire, but that could easily have happened.

You would think that common sense would be sufficient, but in any case the Byelaws for the Common prohibit this activity. See clause 13(1) and note there are no areas set aside for the purpose mentioned in clause 13(2).

If you do see anyone using a barbecue on the Common then please call 101 to report it.
