We will all be aware of the menace of fly tipping and often that action is delayed and the perpetrators not apprehended. A recent news item from Herts Connected describes how the action of a member of the public, and the swift response from the police resulted in a much more positive outcome …

A van was seized and two men have been reported for offences following a fly-tipping in Rickmansworth on the morning of Wednesday 17 June.

Shortly after 10.30am, a call was received from a member of the public reporting that waste had just been dumped in Denham Way. Officers from the Response team were dispatched and had located the van and its occupants within seven minutes. They were escorted back to the location to clear the materials they had illegally dumped, before being informed that their van was being seized. Both males have been reported to the council for civil enforcement. The driver was also reported for not having road tax.

If you witness fly-tipping in progress, please dial 999 straight away. If you come across a fly-tip, please report it to the local council.
